Decolonization and Pathogen Reduction Approaches to Prevent Antimicrobial Resistance and Healthcare-Associated Infections

Antimicrobial resistance in healthcare-associated bacterial pathogens is a significant public health threat. These infections occur when pathogenic bacteria increase in number due to clinical perturbations. Pathogen reduction is an emerging strategy to prevent transmission and infection with these pathogens. The human microbiome plays a role in colonization resistance, reducing infection risk.
